Please join your community at 5 p.m. on Oct. 13 as it celebrates Park Lane’s inclusion in the 2017 Great Places of America list. To showcase the street’s functionality as a flexible street and to spruce it up, the City is converting it into a pedestrian boulevard for the day. The festivities should conclude by 5:30 p.m. at which time you can continue to enjoy this very special street and the rest of beautiful Downtown Kirkland during our monthly Art Walk.
The press and public will also participate in the celebration and presentation of the award by dignitaries from the American Planning Association to Mayor Amy Walen, members of the City Council and City staff.
Park Lane, the street Kirkland created to “go to, not just through,” is one of five streets in the nation to make the Great Places in America list as a Great Street. The American Planning Association compiles the annual list recognizing streets, neighborhoods, and public spaces in the United States that demonstrate exceptional character, quality, and planning—attributes that enrich communities, facilitate economic growth, and inspire others around the country.
